Connect Your Bank EFTPOS Terminal to Your Salon POS (Linkly Cloud)
Many nail salon owners are happy with their bank. The merchant facility is already set up, the money lands in the business account the next day, and the bank manager knows them by name. What they're not happy with is typing every total into the bank's EFTPOS terminal by hand.
The good news: you often don't need to change banks to get integrated payments. Many bank terminals in Australia can connect to salon software through Linkly Cloud. Here's how it works and how to check whether your terminal qualifies.
What is Linkly?
Linkly is an Australian payments platform that sits between POS software and bank EFTPOS terminals. Instead of every POS building a separate connection to every bank, the POS connects to Linkly once, and Linkly talks to the terminals of the banks and providers it supports.
With Linkly Cloud, the terminal connects to Linkly over the internet. There's no PC, cable or extra software in the salon — the iPad running your POS and the terminal just need to be online.
Which banks and terminals work?
Linkly publishes a list of supported banks and terminals, and the features each one supports. For Cloud, the list includes terminals from banks and providers such as:
- CommBank — Essential Plus
- NAB — Move 5000
- Westpac, St.George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA — EFTPOS Connect
- Suncorp — Move 5000 and Lane 3000
- Zeller, Wpay, Live Payments and others
Not every terminal from every bank supports Cloud — some only connect on-premises. Always check the exact terminal model printed on the back of your device against the list on our Linkly terminals page, which follows Linkly's own support table.
How to connect your bank terminal
- Check your terminal model on the Linkly list. If it's not Cloud-capable, ask your bank whether they can swap it for a model that is.
- Ask your bank to enable Linkly Cloud on your terminal. They'll give you the pairing details.
- Pair the terminal with your POS using the Linkly username, password and pair code. The Linkly pairing guide walks through it in Ukilu.
- Run a test sale and a refund for a small amount, and check both appear in your reports.
What works once it's connected
- The total goes from the sale to the terminal — no retyping.
- Refunds are sent to the terminal from the POS.
- Approved, declined and cancelled results come back into the sale.
- If the iPad loses connection mid-payment, the last transaction can be recovered so you know whether the client was charged.
Some terminal features — such as cash out on the terminal, or tipping handled by the terminal itself — aren't part of Ukilu's Linkly integration yet. Tips can still be added in the sale before the amount is sent.
Bank terminal or a provider's terminal?
Staying with your bank keeps things simple: one relationship, settlement into your business account and support you already know. A specialist provider may offer different rates or features. Compare total costs — rate, terminal rental and monthly fees — rather than the headline rate alone. Our guide to EFTPOS fees for nail salons covers what to compare.
Ukilu and your bank terminal
Ukilu is accredited for Linkly Cloud, so salons can keep their bank and still get integrated EFTPOS on the iPad. Ukilu also pairs with KPay and Square Terminal. See the salon POS system or ask our team to check your terminal.
